Did I Ever Tell You Guys About the Time I Tried to Get Into a Drive-In Theater Late at Night?

Well, that’s exactly what I did. I had waited until the last minute to see the Garfield Movie, because, well, I was broke. (Let’s just say I was spending too much on treats.) But then, on July 18th, the final day it was in theaters, I got an invitation from a friend to see The Garfield Movieall the way, at a drive-in movie theater in Warwick, NY. Yes, really.
Long story short, I tried seeing it at a theater earlier, but due to technical difficulties, they said they had to cancel. (You wouldn’t believe how disappointed I was about that.) He told me that he could take me, but never said that he couldn’t take me back. At least not before it was too late. I must say, it was quite the car ride to get there, given that it was all the way out in Warwick, of all places! (Warwick, by the way, is a town in New York. Not New York City, New York State.)
Waiting for the movie to start (it didn’t start until 10:15. No, not 10:15 in the morning, 10:15 at night,) I figured that everything would be okay, as long as I got to see my favorite feline on the silver screen. (You wouldn’t believe what a Garfield fan I was growing up.) Unfortunately, I barely had enough money for a ticket, let alone anything that could assist me, and didn’t even realize I needed a radio to watch a drive-in theater (who uses radio walkie talkies, anyway? What is this, 1995?) So, not only did I watch the movie in complete and utter silence, not realizing what the hell was even going on, he ditched me out of the blue (I didn’t know what the hell was going on with that, either.) Seriously, you wouldn’tbelieve how stressed I was here.
After the film was over, I tried to ask for a ride back, but I realized that any chance at me getting a ride would be a long shot (no pun intended) given my place was well over an hour, and it would not be practical for anyone to get me all the way back to my place at West Orange. Eventually, the police themselves had to get involved, and they called my poor father at 4 in the morning! Realizing that there was no way he could get me back in a groggy state, he decided to wait until the morning. To pass the time, I started talking with the police, particularly about my boyfriend from high school who wanted to be a cop- they found his story to be very cute. And of course, I tried to sleep, but with all the lights, it was quite the challenge!
Someone from my assisted living place decided to pick me up from there instead of Dad, and believe me, she was not thrilled to have to drive at an unreasonable hour like that- (4 in the morning, at that.) Suffice to say, I had decided to give her a good tip at Christmas because I felt like I “owed” her for that. (It was just a card with a lot of signatures, but still.)
In short, I learned a valuable lesson from my (mis)adventure. It’s that, you can’t always trust people, even if they seem nice, and that you probably shouldn’t go out to movie theaters late at night (or for that matter, anywhere far away.) Eventually, I just decided to watch The Garfield Movie at home, using a streaming service. Aside for all I’d been through, everything turned out okay in the end. Hey, I came home in one piece, didn’t I?
